Malwiya minaret in Samarra
The minaret of al-Malwiya and the Great Mosque of Samarra are located in the city of Samarra, which is about 120 km north of Baghdad. The minaret of al-Malwiya is one of the most important tourist attractions in Iraq.
It gained its historical importance thanks to its unique architectural style that has never been built anywhere in the world.
The Lighthouse of Al-Malwiya was built in the shape of a cylindrical spiral of Iraqi pottery bricks. To be the minaret of the largest mosque in the Islamic world at that time, the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mutawakkil, in the year 851, ordered the construction of the Great Mosque of Samarra so that it would be the largest and most beautiful in the world.
The height of the Malwiya minaret is 52 meters, and the Malwiya minaret is located 27.25 meters from the northern wall of the Great Mosque of Samarra.
